It's an art that has to be mastered, especially for those who conduct interviews as a part of their profession.There are several things that play important role and should be sincerely taken into consideration to conduct an easy going interview. Not every interviewer can make most of it while interviewing celebs and politicians. There comes in a point when everything tends to get turn upside down. This is why formal training is a 'must' for all those who aspire to be a journalist in future.

The art of interviewing can be categorized into two heads, preparation and conduct. Each of them are important and a slight negligence in any way would lead to unexpected outcome. This is one of the prime reasons to why an interviewer is handed over strict guidelines, prior to an interview. There's a code of conduct that has to be followed in order to avoid pitfalls. 

Below mentioned are a few things that would change a generic conversation into a great hit.

Choosing people: needless to mention, choosing a person is the first step, prior to interviewing someone. Thus, it is an interviewer's responsibility to observe each and every loophole, be it personal or work-related, about the celebrity so that the interview does not sounds vague or ambiguous. It is acknowledged that it won't be a get-set-go thing and is certainly a time-consuming affair. In order to make the interview sound interactive and informative, there has to be a proper structure. 

Set-up: post deciding who will be interviewed, appointment call should be made to keep everything in check. When it comes to celebrities and/or political leaders, getting appointment approval becomes a tough nut to crack. In simpler words, in order to adhere to the timeline at workplace and conduct a good interview, an individual should be given flexibility and sufficient notice, varying on circumstances to avoid last-minute mess. For the reason that an interviewer rarely gets this opportunity to decide venue, it should be left to an individual's flexibility, who would be interviewed. Though there are many journalists, only a few can be good opportunist. An individual who would be conducting interview should be ever-ready with a questionnaire. This is because even if a celeb lays emphasis on his hectic schedule, instant interview can be conducted, depending on the situation

Follow-up: if a celebrity or a leader has given a specific time to the host, the concerned person should be given a follow-up call or confirmation reminder for the same. 

Homework: interviewing someone is not limited to asking a few questions or playing with words here and there. There has to be a certain pattern, structure and flow of questions that would be taken up in the interview. There's no point in asking such questions that will enable a person who would be interviewed to give a yes or no answer. Homework has to be done by an interviewer so that he/she gets to know about the past, present whereabouts and future projects or plans to make the interview sound obvious, entertaining and informative.

Framing questions: there should be no-break in flow of thoughts and questions while interviewing. The interview must sound informative and genuine to viewers, which otherwise leaves a bad impression. This is possible only when an interviewer will have the familiarity to what all is happening around and is up-to-date. 

Professional code of conduct: be punctual to avoid mess. Unfortunately, if there's a delay, owing to some reason, host should explain it briefly and honestly. First impression counts and thus, the host must dress appropriately and neatly. For instance: a business associate might more readily feel like talking, if the interviewer is conservatively dressed. It is important to be true to self to have a great interview.
